Celebrate the German-American Volksfest three days-long
GRAFENWOEHR, Germany - Grafenwoehr. Once again, the U.S. Army Garrison Grafenwoehr is inviting the entire population to celebrate the German-American Volksfest on Grafenwoehr Training Area. The fest takes place from July 30 to August 1, 2010 statt. The fest is opens on July 30 and 31 from 11 a.m. to midnight and on August 1 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The fest area at Camp Kasserine offers visitors a large variety of rides and more than 100 booths selling souvenirs, gifts and an international assortment of food ranging from American ice cream, barbeque ribs, tacos, nachos, chili, corn-on-the-cob, barbeque chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers and steaks to baked potatoes, gyros, smoked fish and egg rolls. Like every year, the U.S. and German Armies host a static display of weapons systems and equipmente. The German Army will put several tanks on display to include a “Leopard,” “Marder” and Luchs,” as well as an anti-tank helicopter and a howitzer.
Young people interested in joining the German Army, can visit and get information from the German Army recruiters which will be at the fest with their info truck.
The fest area can only be accessed via Gate 6. Exit is through Gate 4 near Tanzfleck. However, installation pass and ID card holders may also access the fest area through Gate 4. Sufficient parking is available on the training area and in the city of Grafenwöhr; follow the parking signs. Free shuttle busses take visitors from the city’s parking lots to the fest area and back. Busses run every 15 to 30 minutes.
Shuttle bus stops are located at the city’s outdoor pool, on Marienplatz (next to the town hall) and at the German post office (Alte Amberger Straße). On all three fest days, the busses run from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Like every year, vehicle and visitor searches will be conducted.
Visitors are requested to carry their ID cards with them. Rucksacks, large bags, coolers and picnic boxes may not be brought onto the fest grounds. Family Day is on July 30. All rides will offer reduced prices from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The fest opens at 11 a.m. with the tapping of the keg. Afterwards, the “Ehenbachtaler“ Band from Schnaittenbach and, starting at 6 p.m., the Pressather Musikanten will play in the fest tent.
On all three days, there will also be entertainment on the MWR stage with DJ MCM who plays variety music and karaoke. Starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, the “Donny Fox“ Band will play live on the MWR stage. On Saturday, the Stadtkapelle Kemnath and the “Speckbachtaler“ will entertain the guests. From 7 p.m. to midnight, “Los Chicolores“ will play funk and soul. On the third and last day of the fest, the Blaskapelle Dießfurt will play traditional Bavarian music and in the evening, rock ’n‘ roll and country fans can enjoy “Smokestack Lightning” on stage.
